Frankie goes Glamping on Anglesey

Our Elite Plus Pod at Brynteg Glamping

This is a little different to Frankie’s normal review. I’d decided to challenge myself to plan a holiday for just me, Freya and Frankie. Initially, I searched for small group holidays with your dog, but there was nothing out there. Then realised as I’m allergic to dogs, it wouldn’t work anyway. I chose Anglesey as I know the island quite well, googled and discovered Brynteg Glamping. It appeared ideal and so I reserved one of the pods as it was lockable and secure!

Brynteg Glamping

Sally and Gary fell in love with North Wales and Anglesey in particular when their children were young. In 2015, they found their ‘piece of heaven’, Ysgubor Fadog and relocated to live a dream of a life less hassled. They set about planning and then building a place where guests could come and stay in comfy homely surroundings and enjoy the Anglesey they loved.

The Paw Award

The five paw awards

Everyone knows we dogs normally have four paws, so to get a five paw award is super special. Four is an extremely positive Frankie recommendation, any less and it’s just a question of personal choice.

Friendly & welcoming atmosphere

We’d received excellent information in advance of our trip, including how to reach the glamping site, which is tucked away amid the greenery of Angelsey’s countryside. Travelling alone, the detailed article we received meant we were fully prepared for what to expect. A very friendly Sally met us at reception and explained how the site operated – primarily with everything you needed, in a totally relaxed atmosphere.

Helpful staff

As a lone female, albeit with two wonderful canine companions, Sally and Gary made us feel very reassured that the glamping site was safe and that help was on hand whenever their guests needed it. You’re treated wonderfully without any feeling of intrusion.

Accommodation suitability & cost for dogs

Other than the geodomes, all the accommodation at Brynteg is dog friendly and is definitely high-end, luxury glamping throughout the site. Our pod was small, as you would expect, but had a sizeable separate shower room, with the rest of the area a combined small kitchen, sofa and double bed. There was plenty of room to house Freya and Frankie’s beds in comfort, and Freya enjoyed lying in front of the patio door enjoying the warmth of the sunshine. There is no additional cost for dogs.

Little extras offered

It’s clear from the instructions that you need to bring everything related to your dog with you, but there is a wash station for dunking your dogs if they returned from their adventures covered in mud, or with half of the beach in their fur! The facilities for adults on the site are pretty amazing too. Full details can be found on the website.

Location & dog walks

The location is perfect for accessing some great dog walks, all within 30 minutes of the site. Two we highly recommend are Parys Mountain – what feels like a Martian walk around the amazing remains of the old copper mine – and a stunning coastal walk at Breakwater Country Park. There is plenty green space on the glamping site as well, perfect for morning and evening walks. You can also access two fields, via Gary’s log store working area, and follow the circular walk back to the front entrance of the site.

Dogs give you wings

Me with Freya and Frankie living the dream

To say I enjoyed the freedom and responsibility for doing everything without my family and friends on hand to help, would be an under statement. However, I’m renowned for literally having no sense of direction. At times I admit to being slightly worried… especially in the pouring rain, somewhere in the middle a copper mine, with so many paths to choose from. Lesson learnt to make a note of my surroundings at the beginning of any future walk! Having Freya and Frankie with me meant I never felt lonely; we just loved our time together, walking, relaxing and having fun. And yes, we will be planning another trip next year.
